Our Favourite Places to Eat in Dorset…

Abode - Everyday - Folk - Wanderlust

town-mill-bakery-lyme-regis We like good food on our holidays (you may have guessed this already!) Having just got back from our most recent mini break at a loverly chalet in Eype, I wanted to share my top three places to eat (to date) when we’re in West Dorset. These are the ones we always make sure there’s time to stop in… town-mill-bakery-lyme-regis town-mill-bakery-lyme-regis town-mill-bakery-lyme-regis

1// Town Mill Bakery ~ Lyme Regis | A Place to Gather
vibe: informal, relaxed, wholesome
price: from £5 for lunch (open for breakfast & dinner ~ check site for times)
what I like: the trestle tables, the shared, eating together atmosphere, the relaxed folk, the food, the apple juice, the plank plates. There’s usually a limited choice of menu, but it’s always good & often makes me try something different. I had spicy veggie soup this time & it was superb! the-stables-bull-hotel-bridport

2// The Stable (Bull Hotel) ~ Bridport | Pizza, Pies & Cider
vibe: warm, welcoming, relaxed, local
price: from £8.50 for a margherita or £7.50 for pie (kids meals available) (each Stable has it’s own menu so check site for details)
what I like: the slightly ‘rough around the edges’ feel that makes it feel welcoming, the giant hand crafted trestles, the “West Country Porker” pizza (the M O S T amazing chorizo. ever.) that it’s slightly tucked away so you feel like you’ve found a local secret, that the Bear always enjoys it too (she can be a little picky).
The pizzas really are incrrrredibly good, and D likes the ciders too.

vibe: beachside, outdoors, coastal, laid back
price: variable (sandwiches/jackets from approx. £7.50. mains £11+)
what I like: eating under the awning, the slightly coastal/vintage feel, the food (always good), waking onto the beach after lunch.
The Hive opening times can be very weather dependant so it’s always best to ring ahead. Parking is free to National Trust members, otherwise P&D.

So there you have it. These are our favourite places to eat and we look forward to them every time we go, although it does mean we tend not to try other places…we’ll just have to stay for longer next time!
