February is a transitional month for me. I’m battling the vestiges of Winter blues, yet refusing to wish away the seasons (more sleep is helping HUGELY!) Time goes so fast already, but I feel a strong sense of awakening & stretching, both in myself and in the nature around us. Noticing the slow lengthening of days and the emerging buds feels good.
On a cold, clear afternoon, there’s a point on our journey home from school where the trees are deep silhouettes against the softest, bright blue sky that melts into vanilla cream clouds. Every time we hit the brow of that hill, it makes me draw a deeply relaxing breath, and I marvel at it’s beauty. I feel thankful, and happy to be heading homewards to get cosy & immerse ourselves in the late afternoon routines…
For Styling the Seasons February; Katy & Charlotte have teamed up with Laura Ashley, and so we were challenged to use a wallpaper and an item from their SS2015 range in our compositions. I’ve tried to capture & reflect this moment through my chosen colours, textures, found or made items…
\\ a large water hyacinth basket is great for stacks of cosy blankets – I wrapped the handles in jersey cotton to add a little contrast.
\\ I used the seaspray blue pussy willow wallpaper to make geometric origami diamants (there’s a great tutorial here). It reflects the colours & season perfectly.
\\ the pineapple was a gift from Rigby & Mac. I liked it as a quirk & it also makes a perfect found feather holder, which reminds me of winter walks.
\\ the postcard (by vignt septembre from tea&kate) reminds me of Boo, and I just adore Sarah Dinckel’s photography for capturing a mood or moment.
How do you find February?
