I’ve just recently discovered Selfish Mother: the blogzine “for brilliant women – rebranding motherhood one post at a time”…Oh, how I wish this had been around in my early days of motherhood! Stories of truth, written with personality & humour from one mother to another – I’m glad to have found it now…
Alongside the main site, I’m also pretty smitten with the Selfish Mother shop – offering T’s & comfy sweats you’ll be proud to wear out & about – I love the good stuff behind the threads…
The MOTHER sweat “was launched to show solidarity for the global sistahood. Because us mamas in the Western world have got it damn good! We have the power to help women less fortunate then ourselves.
All profits from sales of MOTHER designs go to Women for Women International – an amazing charity that helps women in 8 war-torn regions rebuild their lives through training programmes.”
Reading just a few of the openhearted, witty & intelligent articles written by Selfish Mother contributors I certainly get a feeling of solidarity & a (sometimes scarily) relatable dose of each individuals’ current reality. Motherhood is so utterly different for everyone, and I believe support and understanding of the day-to-day realities of women doing the best job they know how to do is of huge importance, whether you agree with how they’re doing it or not. Equally so, I believe it’s important to reflect on the reality of others and the fact that, however hard a day we’re having, most of us, (certainly, I) really do have it good…founder & editor, Molly Gunn, has (in my humble opinion) hit a home run with both the site & the shop.
Laying oneself bare can be a bloomin’ scary thing to do, and I’ve been thinking about how much (or little) I share here of my everyday realities as a mama. It’s something I’ve been wanting to redress the balance on for a while now – perhaps a little more of the everyday rough & tough that’s so naturally interwoven with the sweet stuff of motherhood – the good, the bad, and the occasional ugly.
Whilst I ponder more, this mother’s day, I’ll be wearing my MOTHER sweatshirt with pride & cheering the sistahood in my own little way…I reckon this makes for a pretty awesome double duty mother’s day gift, what d’you think?
Pick one up for yourself, your Mama, or point the Mr in this direction (subtle hints don’t work here either!) Spread the love & share yours with #MotherPower #SelfishMother #MotherTee #WomenforWomenUK
