Four nights in a magical spot, surprise sunny days, good company & good food. It was everything we needed and wanted…time to relax and unwind, time with friends & with each other, time to play & time outdoors.

The tiny village of Eype is on the World Heritage Coastline of West Dorset, not far from the better known West Bay, Bridport & Lyme Regis. Ma first found Eype whilst looking for somewhere to stay in order to visit my Grandma Daf when she moved to assisted accommodation in West Bay and it’s been love ever since.

I find it hard to describe what’s so special about the place, other than to say that for me, it has a magical quality. The second we arrive, calm settles over me as I gaze straight across the clifftops at the sea, listen to the waves crash on the shingle, and take a B I G deep breath. Time seems to stretch, with hours feeling like days and there’s no hurry to anything.

It’s a feeling perhaps aided by the fact that there’s very little phone or internet service, which provides an real (if somewhat enforced) break from it all.

We’ve visited on & off since the Bear was just about bottom shuffling around, and I love that she’s now starting to recognise & remember the places we go & the things we see…she was so excited when she remembered the beach & we were down there throwing stones before we’d even unpacked!

We were incredibly lucky with the weather. With bright sunshine two days, we walked the clifftop path from the chalet down to West Bay for ice-creams from the Watch House Cafe on one; and had lunch at Burton Bradstock, a quick trip on the beach & a short walk up the cliffs on the second. On the rainy day in between, we popped into Lyme for lunch, and spent the rest of the day snuggled up in the chalet, enjoying being cosy & watching the changing weather.

We stayed in a new-to-us chalet this time (one that I’ve always wanted to stay in), and I have to say, we were really chuffed. You can find out more here

If you’ve followed me on instagram a while, you might already know my top three favourite eateries (we do like good grub!) but in case not, I’ve rounded them up here

There is really so much to do and see nearby. As we’ve been quite a few times now, our time was more about walking, eating & relaxing together, but do give me a shout if you need any specific recommendations and I’ll try my best to help out x
