“Dia de los Muertos” Party Inspiration…

It’s been such a gloomy morning here, I thought I’d hop by & share a little of the wonderful colours, patterns and pins that are inspiring me as we prepare for our alternative Halloween party…

As I’ve said before, I’m not a fan of the commercial Halloween fare, but I’m really drawn to the Mexican celebration, Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), which happens around the same time.

I love the beauty, colour and festivity of the bright painted skulls and florals  juxtaposed alongside the drama and darkness that naturally surrounds death, even in celebration and memory of those we’ve loved and lost.

My costume pieces have been arriving and I’m getting so excited…I always take on too much when I’m planning this kind of stuff as usually there’s so much I want to do, but I’m going to try to keep it fairly simple this time! Definitely thinking giant paper flowers & skulls, sugar biscuits & painted pumpkins will be on the cards though…

Check out more of my pins for Dia de los Muertos here:

Do you celebrate Halloween, and if so, how? Where do you find your party inspiration? x

Oh such stunning, rich colours. I had some Dia de los Muertos skulls on my Christmas/birthday list for a couple of years but no-one ever got me them so I gave up. I should just treat myself, really!
